How the price of a 3D print is calculated

The quote tool reads your STL and measures its volume and surface. It mimics what the slicer does: the walls and the top and bottom layers are printed solid, and the inside is filled at the infill you choose. From that it works out the grams of filament and, with the real average speed of your printer, the print hours.

On top of the filament cost it adds electricity, machine wear, your work hours, extras and waste. The selling price is that cost times the multiplier you choose.

Does it work for any part?

Yes: figures, spare parts, models, gifts or signs. Any STL in millimetres. If your part comes out tiny or huge, check the scale: some programs export in centimetres or inches.
